1. Overview

IdentityTheftComparisons.com ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at identitytheftcomparisons.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, shared, and protected when you visit the Site.

The Site is a static website: it has no user accounts, logins, comment sections, or shopping cart. Most of what's described below comes from the standard way websites, hosting, and third-party services work.

2. Information we collect

Information you choose to provide

• Contact form and email: If you use our contact form or email info@identitytheftcomparisons.com, we receive your name, email address, and message, plus any optional details you include (such as how you found us). We use this only to respond to you. Contact form submissions are delivered to us by our form-processing provider (currently Formspree), or by your own email app.

Information collected automatically

• Server and CDN logs: Our hosting provider (Hostinger) and its content delivery network automatically log technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, pages requested, and the date and time. These logs are used for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.
• Third-party resources: Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those files, Google receives your IP address and browser details.
• Analytics: We use Google Analytics, which collects information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (city or region), device type, and how you arrived at the Site. We use analytics only in aggregate, to understand which content is useful.
• Cookies and similar technologies: See Section 3.

3. Cookies and third-party services

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. The Site itself doesn't need cookies to work, but third-party services we use may set them:

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, including blocking third-party cookies only. Blocking cookies won't prevent you from reading the Site. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Google advertising

We use, or plan to use, Google AdSense to show ads on the Site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and other sites on the internet.

5. Affiliate tracking links

Some links to identity theft protection services may be affiliate links. When you click one, the provider or affiliate network may set a cookie that identifies our Site as the referrer, so we can receive a commission if you sign up within the program's tracking window.

We don't receive your name, payment details, or account information from these transactions, only confirmation that a qualifying referral occurred. The provider handles all personal and payment data for your account under its own privacy policy. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

6. How we use information

• Operating and securing the Site: keeping it available, fast, and protected from abuse.
• Improving content: understanding which pages are useful and how visitors find us.
• Advertising: allowing Google to serve and measure ads that help fund the Site.
• Affiliate commissions: receiving credit when a visitor signs up through our links.
• Responding to you: replying to questions, corrections, and requests.
• Legal compliance: meeting our legal obligations and protecting our rights.

We don't use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

7. How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't rent or trade it. Information is shared only as follows:

• Service providers: companies that help run the Site, including our hosting and CDN provider (Hostinger), our form-processing provider (Formspree), Google (fonts, analytics, and advertising), and affiliate networks. They receive data only as needed to provide their services.
• Advertising partners: as described in Section 4, Google and its partners collect data through advertising cookies. Under some state privacy laws (such as California's), this may be considered "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out as described in Section 9.
• Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or protect anyone's safety.
• Business transfers: if the Site is sold or transferred, visitor information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.

8. Data retention

• Server and CDN logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period, typically weeks to a few months.
• Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention setting (up to 14 months for detailed data).
• Emails and contact form messages are kept as long as needed to handle your request and for our records, unless you ask us to delete them.
• Affiliate cookies expire automatically at the end of each program's tracking window.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights below. We'll honor reasonable requests from any visitor.

To make a request, email info@identitytheftcomparisons.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 30 days, or within the time required by your local law.

10. Children's privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Although we publish content about protecting children's identities, that content is written for parents and guardians.

11. Security

The Site uses HTTPS encryption for data in transit, and our hosting provider maintains physical and network security for its servers. No method of internet transmission is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

We never ask for, and have no way to collect, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or other sensitive financial data. All sign-ups for identity theft protection services happen on the providers' own websites.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, the services we use, or the law. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date below. Continued use of the Site after an update means the updated policy applies.
